Undoubtedly, the Apple iPad is the most popular tablet in the world and completely dominates. This is why all the big e-reader companies treat their apps for iOS/iPadOS as their flagship apps. They introduce new features and enhancements quicker, and also address bug fixes. Globally, Apple controls 42.3 percent market share in the fourth quarter of 2024, according to a new report from Canalys.
Apple shipped an estimated 16.9 million iPads during the quarter, up from 14.8 million in Q4 2023. The company’s closest competitor was Samsung, which shipped 7 million tablets in Q4 2024, for 17.8 percent of the market. Lenovo, Huawei, and Xiaomi were third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
Throughout 2024, Apple once again is the one to beat. They shipped an estimated 57 million iPads, representing 38.6 percent of the market. Apple shipped over twice as many tablets as Samsung, which shipped just 27.8 million.
Apple constantly releases new devices that suit different people. Casuals love the iPad Mini, which is easy to carry. The iPad and iPad Air are great for media consumption, while the iPad Pro, with its beefed-up specs and four speakers, is aimed at gamers and creative professionals.
