The Supernote Manta A52X comes across as an excellent note-taking device. With stellar specs and a brilliant pen accompanying the device, you have the most inviting experience when it comes to notetaking, something that Supernote believes is one of the biggest USPs of the device. The other aspect of the Manta that makes it stand head and shoulders above the competition is the ease with which it can be repaired. The company had boldly proclaimed during the launch how the Manta scored high on service and repairability, and the first step to that happening was to have a rear face that could be pried open.

This has also been one of the design criteria of the new Manta – a removable rear that will allow for easy access to the internal components. So far so good but the problem so far has been the lack of the spares itself. Fortunately, iFixit, the company that promotes self-repair on a world scale and is renowned for its tear-down videos has now come up with the spares that you will need for repairing the. The replacement parts are available at the Supernote DIY Zone.

There isn’t an extensive list of components that you will be able to replace though. Among the parts that are available include the battery, the motherboard and such. So, if the issue is with the modem or the microSD card slot or some other chip, the best that you will be able to do is replace the entire motherboard itself. Similarly, you will also be able to replace the battery too. iFixit is providing all the necessary documentation that includes the steps to be followed for doing all the repair work yourself. You won’t have to rush to the nearest service station for the same.

All of this makes Supernote to be truly unique in the world of technology where almost every other company is busy launching new products without paying heed to their repairability. This way, repairing a device often turns out to be the less tempting solution if the device breaks down even though it might require just minor repairs. Also, devices often last for years with the only noticeable change noted is battery degradation. Just replacing the battery can do wonders in those cases.

Introducing devices that are easily repairable will also provide impetus to eco-friendly innovations in future. This is something that companies need to adopt urgently to stem the rapid degradation that the environment is facing right now. Unfortunately, none seem to be too concerned about this pressing issue at the moment. Amazon and Kobo are doing their bit by launching products made from recycled materials though they can do a lot of favor to Mother Nature by designing future products that are easily repairable as well.

Meanwhile, Supernote is also encouraging users to come up with custom-designed products and accessories. Those can be folio covers or even the pen as well, using the core components from the company itself. Let’s just hope Supernote and iFixit’s efforts do not go in vain and others follow suit sometime soon.

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
