Although this Desktop application is not entirely new, select people were invited to use it when Kobo updated their factory firmware that allowed ePub books, downloaded outside of Kobo, to display the proper fonts. Now it looks like Kobo has ditched the invite only aspect of this software suite and opened it up to the public.
This program is billed to be able to effectively manage your Kobo E-Reader library and remove books from your Kobo when you’re done with them. The application also allows people with smart phones, other brands of e-readers, and tablet devices to purchase books and use the Kobo Desktop Software to transfer them to your E-Reader.
When you have the application installed on your computer and an internet connection, you can use the Kobo Desktop Application to shop for eBooks through the integrated Kobo eBook Store with over 2.2 million ebooks and download content to their desktop to easily build and manage their library.
Kobo has been on overdrive since releasing their E-Reader earlier this year. They have applications for Apple Products, such as the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, and they also have a Blackberry app and the recent Android Application. This new Desktop Manager is their final software release for the Kobo Brand.
The Kobo Desktop Application supports both Windows and Macintosh operating systems and is currently available for free downloading from http://www.kobobooks.com/desktop. The application also comes preloaded on every Kobo eReader. The Kobo eReader is available for purchase at Borders in the US, Indigo Books & Music and Walmart in Canada, and Whitcoull’s, A&R, and Borders in Australia and New Zealand.
