Part of the excitement surrounding an event like Digital Book World is the opportunity to meet up with some of the top innovators in the digital publishing industry. GoodeReader sat down with Bill McCoy, Executive Director of the International Digital Publishing Forum, the organization that hosts the IDPF Digital Book event each year at BookExpo America.
At today’s event, however, McCoy was focused on the greater adoption of ePub3, the platform that the IDPF adoption as the industry standard some time ago. He went into detail about how this platform can prove to be crucial for the publishers who are working so diligently on globalization, as the platform itself lends itself to the needs of foreign languages that require special digital considerations.
Some interesting details from McCoy’s interview include the explanation of Amazon’s adoption of the ePub file format–as opposed to its standard MOBI format–for Japanese ebooks in light of the Amazon.jp store launch, as well as Kobo‘s ePub-only ebook store formed by parent company Rakuten.
