Overstock.com the popular website devoted to deals and surplus items are now in the business of selling eBooks. Rather then form publisher relationships and deal directly with 1st party companies it simply made an agreement with Barnes and Noble.
The new ebook store is rather simple and they seem to be only posting books that have some sort of discount which adheres to the companies core ethos. When you purchase or click on a book you are redirected to the Barnes and Noble official bookstore.
“Barnes & Noble is pleased to become Overstock.com’s exclusive digital bookstore partner, and to continue our relationship selling refurbished NOOK Simple Touch and NOOK Color on Overstock.com,” said Jim Hilt, Vice President of eBooks for Barnes & Noble. “The combination of our award-winning portfolio of NOOK products, the Overstock.com online experience, and now access to the largest assortment of eBooks, will make it even easier to help more customers find their next great read.”
So how is Overstock making money on this whole venture? Well B&N runs a commission and affiliates program that allows you to make money by embedding custom codes. So when you purchase a book Overstock would make a few cents on each one purchased. This is a new program that was just rolled out today, so it remains to be seen if Overstock will post any deals of the day in ebook format in the future.
