Here is an E Ink display kit that DIY enthusiasts will love to have. Fed with the right program (via the Arduino IDE development environment), the Inkplate 6 MOTION can perform various functions. It comes with a 6-inch 1024 x 758 resolution E Ink display with support for 4-bit grayscale display. As TechBang reported, the display has an update speed of 500 ms for 1-bit pure black and white and 800 ms for 4-bit modes. The update speed for partial update screen mode is just 91 ms, the same as an update frequency (FPS) of 11 frames per second. This might still be less than the least – 60 fps – that LCD panels are capable of, but it is still enough to display simple animations.

Under the hood, the Inkplate 6 MOTION features an STMicroelectronics STM32H743ZIT6 microcontroller and an Espressif ESP32-C3 secondary controller. It comes with 1 MB SRAM, 32 MB DRAM, and an integrated flash memory of 2 MB, which can be further expanded via microSD cards. The display kit supports wireless connectivity, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Sensors it comes integrated with include a temperature sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, and proximity sensor. It features three buttons and a scroll wheel that users can program to perform various tasks. Other external devices and sensors can be connected via the 30-pin GPIO terminal.

The Inkplate 6 MOTION is scheduled to launch on October 15, 2024. The basic kit costs 169 USD, and the battery, black plastic shell, and 3D printing shell are 10 USD each.

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
