Samsung has come up with a digital alternative to printed advertising material in the form of its Color E-Paper digital signage solution, the company revealed via a blog post. The Color E-Paper, as the display is named, is identified by the model name EM32DX and features a 32-inch color e-paper display. One of the biggest USP of the display is its ultra-low power consumption, which is rated at 0.00W when showing static color images.

Technically speaking, any device with power requirement of less than 0.005W can be rated at 0.00W. The Samsung Color E-Paper falls into that category of devices. The power drawn when the display changes is also significantly less compared to other digital devices of its class. Samsung is claiming the 4,600mAh battery that the Color E-Paper comes with can last up to 200 days on a single charge provided the content changes once every day. The USB-C port onboard can be used to recharge the battery.

The 32-inch 16:9 aspect ratio e-paper display otherwise has a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. It comes with 8 GB of onboard storage which can be used for local storage of the images that the display would eventually show. New images or other content can be transferred to the device via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth using the Samsung E-Paper smartphone app which is available for both Android and iOS devices.

The app will also let you set the on and off times or content playlists, with the content getting updated automatically. The app serves as both a content creation and management platform. Users will be able to visualize how the content will show on the display, which is necessary considering that the e-paper display might show some content a bit differently than conventional displays as they support far fewer colors than LCD or OLED.

The display is encased within a slim casing that is lightweight and thin, thereby allowing for ease of transportation and installation. With an integrated battery and wireless mode of operation, there is no wiring needed as such for its installation or operation. Wired connection is however needed for recharging the battery (as well as for data transfer), which, as already stated, can last months on a single charge. The plastic used for the casing is made from 50 percent recycled material.

Samsung though is yet to reveal what the Color E-Paper EM32DX will cost, or when it is going to be available. Stay tuned for updates on this.

Update: It runs Tizen and the resolution is 2,560 x 1,440)  and a built-in 4,600mAh battery.

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
