Here comes what is being referred to as the world’s first video color e-paper display. As ITHome reported, the video color e-paper display measures over 30 inches and has a refresh rate of 18 frames per second. This makes for a slight improvement over the around 10 or 12 frames per second refresh rate that E Ink displays are capable of. While some companies such as Dasung claim an even higher – 60 fps – screen refresh times, that often is at the cost of display quality.
The video color e-paper display manages to dodge that with the use of advanced technique and software algorithms which ensures the screen is able to refresh faster without compromising on the display quality. Developed by Guangzhou Aoyi Electronic Technology in partnership with Shenzhen Jin Yatai Technology company, the display not only benefits from a faster refresh rate but also has markedly reduced flickering. All of this ensures a vastly improved viewing experience.
As Aoyi stated, this has been achieved through the use of FPGA processing technology along with advanced image processing algorithms, local display functions, and unified control of split screens. One of the biggest USP of the new display technology is its ability to dynamically refresh a portion of the display while at the same time controlling the synchronous display of the large screen split screen. This has led to a faster overall screen refresh rate as well as response times.
This overcomes one of the biggest drawbacks of e-paper displays, which typically suffer from slow refresh rates compared to LCD panels. This makes it largely suitable for displaying static content, though not anymore. That is also the reason the company is calling it a video e-paper display, thanks to its ability to show video content more effortlessly.
Aoyi has also confirmed to ITHome that the display has already entered the mass production stage and is expected to reach markets within the next two months. Stay tuned.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
