While opinion is still divided as to how best to define the new Nook Color (since its both an e-reader and a tablet at the same time), anyone willing to have a feel of the new Nook Color can now do so as demo units of the same have now reached Barnes & Noble outlets. Barnes & Noble, on its part has been careful not to use either of the terms ‘e-reader‘ or ‘tablet‘ to describe their latest creation.
For B&N, the Nook Color is not an e-reader since the device does not have an e-ink display, something that the Nook boasts of. Similarly, for the company, the Nook Color is not a tablet either despite the fact that the latest B&N creation sports a full touch sensitive screen, is able to playback audio and video files, supports full web browsing capabilities and can connect to the internet via Wi-Fi. The Nook Color also runs on the Android operating system.
“Nook Color is the device for people who love to read everything,” is how Barnes & Noble CEO William Lynch describes the new device. “Beyond being the most full featured reading product on the market, it also offers the versatility of a tablet, enabling wireless web browsing and streaming music.”
The Nook Color demo versions will also be there at Best Buy, Walmart and Books-A-Million stores. However, there is a good reason to be at the Nook Boutiques in B&N stores since here, prospective buyers will be greeted with a white-glove service personal device set-up service called NOOKsmart, and its Book Ready.
“We’re encouraged by the consumer response thus far, and the organization is committed to doing everything we can to meet demand,” Lynch further added.
And once eager enthusiasts have got a hands-on with the Nook Color, perhaps they will be in a better position to tell what the latest Nook really is, a color e-reader or a tablet.
November 19 is the date when the pre-ordered units will be delivered.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
