Many companies sell e-readers that ship to the US from Hong Kong or mainland China. Packages are usually delivered to the customer via the United States Postal Service or handed off to them. It might take longer for you to receive anything you order from a Chinese retailer or e-commerce platform such as Aliexpress, JD, Shein, or Temu. The US Postal Service says it has suspended the acceptance of incoming international parcels from China and Hong Kong until further notice.

This is happening because US President Donald Trump signed an executive order terminating the “de minimis” exemption. This long-standing rule allowed anyone, including exporters, to ship packages worth less than $800 to the United States without duties or inspections. Four million de minimis packages were sent daily to the US in 2024. FedEx and DHL said they would continue to ship typically.

The Trump administration imposed an additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods.

Likely, Chinese brands such as Onyx Boox, Supernote, Meebook, Hyread, Mooink, Huawei, and others will no longer be able to ship cheaply to the United States. This will likely also affect Amazon’s stockpiles since Boox and Meebook sell directly on the platform. Shoppers who place orders on Amazon will likely face stock shortages in the coming weeks. Customers who place orders directly from these companies’ online stores will likely have to pay a large amount of shipping and duty since DHL said they would continue to ship typically. Still, they are expensive and charge more for customs and clearance.

Update: After 24 hours, USPS will now deliver parcels from China and Hong Kong.
