Remember the Entourage Edge? Well there was a time not too long ago when the device was making waves. It was a time when the iPad was still a hot topic of speculation and rumors while the Entourage Edge went about trumpeting its credentials as the first combo device that can be both an e-reader as well as a tablet at the same time. The Entourage Edge was not without its share of niggling problems but it could still have found decent number of buyers but for the brilliant iPad that did what can be termed as, ‘came, saw and won and then instead of going off, the iPad stayed back and seems to stay put for a long time.
No wonder, the Entourage Edge quickly faded from public memory (public memory is notoriously short anyway) though it now seems it has never been out in the first place itself. It was recently spotted in the wild when chip maker Marvel accidentally let the world know of the device during a visit to the Marvel facility by none other than California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. That such a device is in the making was always known though the latest pictures validates what were rumors till now.
The Entourage Edge though is no longer the same as it used to be with screen size having been reduced to perhaps six inches on one side and seven on the other while it used to be 9.7 inches on both sides. The name itself has undergone a change so that it would now be called ‘Verizon Pocket Edge’ perhaps to drive home the point the reduction in size though with a hinged design it would be a far cry to slim form of the Kindle and the Nooks.
However, apart from the downsizing, the Edge does not seem to have undergone any drastic design changes with everything else seemingly the same. The front facing camera though seems to have been shifted from the right to the left while the speakers continue to be still integrated in to what can be termed as the ‘spine’ of the Pocket Edge. The Android operating system too is likely to be part of the new setup though the exact version has been kept under wraps.
The full specification of the device is still a closely guarded secret though with Verizon on the scene, it is perhaps safe to guess there will be EVDO radio integrated into the device for 3G. Also with Marvel showcasing the yet to be announced device at its own facilities, it can be a clear indication of some form of their own ARM chip powering the Pocket Edge.
The Pocket Edge was previously rumored to be ready for a November launch and with the recent sighting of the almost complete device, it seems the Pocket Edge is well on track to meet its launch deadline.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
