As many self-published authors—and even traditionally published authors—are discovering, a lot of the work of book promotion and marketing falls back on the writers. Arranging blog tours, getting cover blurbs, and staging live events and signings often becomes the authors’ work, along with garnering the all-important book reviews from reputable organziations and publications.
ForeWord Reviews is one of the companies that allows indie and self-published authors to submit their published works for published reviews, an important step in the process of getting authors’ books into libraries and bookstores.
Now, ForeWord has announced another vital piece of promotion for writers: its 2012 Book of the Year Awards. This year’s contest is opening to submissions early in light of the tremendous response to the announcement of the 2011 BOYTA finalists at the beginning of this month.Any indie or self-published book that was published in 2012 is eligible to enter.
“For 2012, there are sixty-two categories, and in each a gold, silver, and bronze winner will be awarded. In addition to the three winners named, an Editor’s Choice Prize of $1,500 for Best Fiction and Best Nonfiction book for 2012 will be selected,” as stated in the press release on this year’s competition. This includes the addition of new genres and categories in response to the wide variety of writings that authors are now able to publish at their own discretion.
“ForeWord amended its genre categories to address specific literary trends. Additions include Translations and War&Military to the fiction category and Popular Culture to the Adult Nonfiction list. We also split Children’s Picture Books into two categories; one for young readers, up to the age of four, and the other for early readers, ages five to eight. And we’ve made it easier to find the best category for your book by adding genre descriptions online.”
