The entire Harry Potter saga will be unleashed in Japan this summer using ePUB 3 to render the complex Japanese language characters. Pottermore also offers an online experience for readers to enjoy, and this will also be released in Japan in the next few months. Each of the ebooks is unabridged and text only, without enhancement. The ebooks are published in partnership with J.K. Rowling’s print publisher in Japan, Say-zan-sha Publications.
One of the main benefits of the ePUB 3 experience with the Harry Potter books is the ability to download them for personal use on a range of devices and platforms, including personal computers, e-readers, tablets, and mobile phones.
Charlie Redmayne, CEO of Pottermore, mentioned that “J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books have been phenomenally popular in Japan and we are delighted now to make the ebook version available in Japanese. We will also soon be making the free to use Experience available – which will offer Japanese Harry Potter fans the chance to explore and discover new writing by J.K. Rowling as well as immerse themselves in some great interactive content and community activities.”
