Kobo has just ironed out agreements with some of the leading USA big box retailers to carry the Kobo Vox in their stores, including Buy.com, Best Buy, and Target. It will be sold for $199 and features Kobo Pulse, which is a way for people to talk about the books they are reading with each other.
This new agreement between Kobo and some of the nation’s largest retailers allows the Vox to be sold alongside the Kobo Touch with Special Offers and the Kobo Wireless online. “We’re excited to offer the Kobo Vox eReader in U.S. Best Buy locations where consumers can try our innovative social experience and see the difference that Kobo brings to eReading,” said Todd Humphrey, EVP Business Development, Kobo, Inc. “We’re focused on delivering an innovative and easy eReading experience and our expanded footprint throughout the U.S. will allow consumers to experience Kobo first hand and find out why it is the favored choice of millions of readers around the world.”
Ever since Kobo’s exclusive agreement with Borders to carry their e-readers went bust with the company’s bankruptcy, they have been struggling with penetration into one of the world’s largest markets. Today’s deal with Target, Best Buy, and Best Buy Online gives people a chance to get their hands on the ereader before they buy. It is critical with e-readers and tablets for people to test it before they take it home. Best Buy also has solid customer support and experience to help people troubleshoot their devices, which would bypass Kobo’s own woeful customer service.
