Touchscreen based devices might have emerged as the future, replacing physical keyboard in several devices in the process. Smartphones happen to be one of them which has done away with physical keyboards. That does not mean we do not need to do any typing anymore. Rather, that has come to be done via touchscreen keyboards.

Unfortunately, while those are great given the almost infinite levels of customization such keyboards can provide, they lack the all-important tactile support that is so very important for typing pleasure. Fortunately, we can have the best of both worlds with the new Nemeio keyboard, which might have the look and feel of a traditional keyboard but also hides an e ink display under the keys. The only difference with the Nemeio is that it comes with transparent keys, letting you see the e ink display below.

It is this e ink display that is individually programmable, thereby providing you with almost endless possibilities when it comes to setting the function of each key. Apart from the backlight that illuminates the keys, you can also switch the visual format from white-on-black or black-on-white as per your preference. You also have the option to change the layout from QWERTY TO DVORAK, or set the less used keys to any shortcut that you may need more often.

For all this, the Nemeio keyboard comes with its own software that will let you have control over every key. The keyboard also supports all languages that your operating system is compatible with. That way, the same keyboard can be used in a multilingual user environment—no need to change physical keyboards for the same.

The keyboard is also slim enough to make it to your backpack without adding much of a bulk. That said, at 800 grams, it isn’t exactly lightweight as many a tablet or even convertible devices weigh as much these days. The keyboard however, comes with its own energy source in the form of an integrated battery, which is said to last 20-hours on a single charge and can be replenished using a USB-C cable. Further, with Bluetooth connectivity, the Nemeio keyboard can be paired with just about any Bluetooth enabled device, be it a smartphone, tablet, laptop, and so on.

In short, the Nemeio is a keyboard that is designed to be the way you’d like it to be given that each and every key is customizable. Coming to its price, the Nemeio is a crowd-funded project with each unit of the keyboard pegged at $394. That said, there is a discount currently applicable that has brought the price down 37 percent to $248. You can buy the keyboard from here.

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
