Last week Sony updated its official Android e-Reading App to support the multimedia based EPUB3 ebook format. It was an interesting development at the time, because the company did not really have a dedicated section of its bookstore that customers could easily find enhanced ebooks. Today Sony announced that it has launched its new “Kids Corner,” which has a ton of ebooks with audio, video, and multimedia elements.
The Kids Corner section has a few hundred titles that customers living in the US, Canada, UK, and most of Europe can purchase. None of these enhanced books are Sony exclusives and all the titles can be found in competitors’ stores. Still, it is very good to see Sony not ditching the e-reader and ebook space altogether. The company has put a low priority on marketing e-readers and its line of tablets. Hopefully this new kids section will appeal to parents looking to keep their little ones entertained.
