TCL has introduced its new NXTPAPER 4.0 display technology at the ongoing CES event. The company is also claiming significant improvement with the latest NXTPAPER display tech, offering enhanced levels of eye comfort which in turn provides for a much superior user experience. The company attributes this to the use of nano-matrix lithography technology which has contributed to higher levels of clarity and sharpness.
Further, the use of blue light reduction and circularly polarized light (CPL) technology has ensured the display is able to replicate a natural light environment so that you have a soft and the most natural light effect. Among the other notable aspects of the new NXTPAPER 4.0 display is the advanced AI-based Intelligent Eye Comfort Mode and Personalized Eye Comfort Mode that the display boasts of. This acts to adjust the color temperature, brightness, and contrast so that you have the most optimum viewing experience no matter what you are viewing or whatever the external lighting conditions might be.
To showcase the capabilities of the new display tech, TCL also introduced the TCL NXTPAPER 11 Plus tablet and TCL 60 XE NXTPAPER 5G smartphone featuring NXTPAPER 4.0 display.
TCL NXTPAPER 11 Plus
Of the two, the NXTPAPER 11 Plus can be considered a further upgrade over the NXTPAPER 11 that the company introduced some time back. While still retaining the 11-inch display of the predecessor that extends all the way to the edges, the NxtPaper 4.0 is the first to achieve 100% sRGB color gamut coverage. This makes the tablet to be an excellent option for media consumption as well as fulfilling your creative pursuits.
Further, thanks to the AI-enabled Smart Eye Comfort and Personalized Eye Comfort modes, you get to have optimum brightness, contrast, and color brightness. The best thing here is that the display setting gets activated automatically depending on the usage scenario or specific user preferences. Although the settings were present in the NXTPAPER 11 device as well, the TCL NXTPAPER 11 Plus is the first to achieve the particular display setting using advanced AI algorithms.
So far so good but TCL isn’t revealing details of the NXTPAPER 11 Plus beyond its display qualities. Among the info missing include the device specifications, the price it is going to be sold at along with the launch details. For reference, the original NXTPAPER 11 was priced at $230.
TCL 60 XE NXTPAPER 5G
Coming to the TCL 60 XE NXTPAPER 5G smartphone, as already stated, is another device to sport the NxtPaper 4.0 (6.8-inch FHD+ resolution) display. The smartphone is also special in that it can transform into an e-reader with a single flick of a switch. The display is going to assume the qualities you would associate with an e-paper display as seen on devices such as the Kindle or the Kobo. What is also nice is that battery life gets extended to around a week in black-and-white e-reader mode.
The biggest advantage here, apart from a low glare display that is soft on the eyes, is a relatively high display refresh rate that makes it conducive for activities like watching videos or even playing some games. A low refresh rate for E Ink display happens to be one of its biggest drawbacks that greatly hampers its appeal in the tablet space even though the display might be okay for use as an e-reader.
The key used for invoking e-reader mode is named the NXTPAPER key. Turning it on will let you select from two monochrome display modes – black and white e-paper mode and a ‘Max Ink mode’. As should be perceptible, selecting Max Ink mode will transform the device into an e-reader. You get to use up to 7 apps in this mode. In other words, it is these 7 apps that would remain active while all other applications are going to enter sleep mode. This is done to ensure just the minimal distraction when using the phone as an e-reader.
The specific display mode will remain in effect for up to a maximum of 26 days in standby mode or 7 days when the smartphone is being used as an e-reader. The dormant apps will become active after the said period is over. The nice thing about Max Ink mode is that the display retains a high refresh rate even when showing maximum e-paper display qualities. This ensures smooth animations or page turns.
As with the tablet, complete details about the phone is also missing at the moment. However, we know it is going to feature 8 GB of memory and 256 GB of storage. Further, there is going to be a 50 MP primary camera as well. The phone is going to be available exclusively in the US and Canada. It is going to debut in Canada first around May 2025 and will cost $199. Thereafter, it is going to reach the US market.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
