Amazon has rolled out another software update for its current lineup of Kindles, extending the update to include the previous 10th-generation models like the Paperwhite 4 and the 2019 entry-level Kindle, The e-Book Reader reported.
This incremental update, denoted by the addition of .1 to the previous version released in late August, likely addresses minor bugs only. Amazon does not usually reveal what new features, if at all, have been introduced. So, even if there are any new features added, they are a mystery as of now. There however is some speculation about its connection to the recent KFX support for personal documents, the update excludes older models, suggesting it addresses other aspects.
This update also underscores Amazon’s delineation of which models will receive future updates, as 7th-9th gen Kindles remain on the older 5.16.2.1.1 software for the second consecutive update cycle. The latest software version, applicable to all 10th and 11th gen Kindles, including the Kindle Scribe, is 5.16.3.1. This continues the trend of separating the update version for newer models from their predecessors. Despite initial expectations, it seems older models won’t receive the 5.16.3 update, indicating a shift in Amazon’s update strategy which points towards focusing on the 10th and 11th gen Kindles only.
Also, as is the usual trend, the update is going to download and install on your device automatically when it becomes available in your region. Or, you can go to the Amazon Kindle Software Update page and download and install the update manually.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
