One of the many things that drives authors to consider self-publication is the desire to retain some control over their manuscripts. Even in an era of digital publishing and the access to many companies that will format and distribute the e-book to the major outlets, authors often shy away from the larger companies due to fears about competing release dates, ownership over price points, or just a valid concern that their books will get lost in the crowd on some of the larger online retail sites.
EasyEPUB, a U.K. based company with a strong presence in the U.S., converts authors’ manuscripts for Adobe InDesign, QuarkXPress, and MS Word, notably, and returns them to the authors. Unsold. Which is ridiculous for the indie author without the time, resources, or know-how to get their books on the market, but is, in fact, ideal for the authors who want to make the crucial–albeit difficult–decisions about where and how to market and sell their e-books. The company can also set up a single webpage through ClickBank for the author that will sell and monetize the e-book for a small percentage of each sale.
