With the recent release of the Kobo Libra Colour and the Kobo Clara Colour we have been treated to some pretty amazing devices, while also losing availability to others (Libra 2).
Is it possible for Kobo to make a better eReader than what they currently have available?
What is one newly implemented feature that would ensure that their devices remain ahead of the market?
Well, technology keeps evolving and updating. Being a buyer, you should focus on buying the best device available at the market as per your needs and specifications.
But if we give a specific answer, then the biggest change Kobo could make will be around the software side. In terms of hardware, it’s hard to do much more than the competition with an ereader. Some possible updates with the software could include adding multiple library cards at once like you can only Libby app on Android or iOS. But looking at the ongoing trends at Kobo, it doesn’t seem possible at the moment. Another needed update would be the ability to sync sideloaded books between Kobo App on my phone and Kobo devices. This is something nice that Kindle ereaders can do.
According to a Reddit user, some possible improvements should be made on the UI side, for instance:
- Introduce kerning and ligatures
- Improve word spacing and hyphenation in their kepub format
- Support in kepub for embedded fonts. Better support for tables, like Kindle has
- Annotations that exported as text or HTML would be nice.
- Multiple library card support
- An integrated remote page-turner
Other Reddit users demand improvements like a hands-free device that uses AI to interpret voice-assisted natural-language navigation, bluetooth page-turning device compatibility, word processor using any Bluetooth keyboard, longer battery time, expandable storage memory, etc.
