Kobo suddenly has a few color e-reader devices to offer that might make the Kindle devices look a bit dated. To make matters all the more tricky for the Kindle range, the Kobo Clara Colour can now be bought for a discount. Against a regular price tag of £139.99, the latest generation Kobo e-reader can now be bought for £119.99. This way, you get to save £20 right away. The Kobo e-readers aren’t offered on discount as frequently as the Kindle, which makes the current deal a nice one, more so given that the Kobo Clara Colour was launched only towards the end of April. Kobo is also offering the Clara BW for £99.99 which too is £20 less than the usual £119.99 price tag.
Needless to say, the one thing that makes the Clara Colour stand out from the competition is its color E Ink display. The 6-inch Kaleido 3 panel offers 150 PPI resolution when showing color content and 300 PPI resolution with black-and-white displays. The Kaleido 3 displays otherwise shouldn’t need any introduction given that there already are several e-note and e-reader devices sporting the latest-generation color e-paper display. It is just that Kobo is the first among the big three (Amazon, Kobo, and Barnes & Noble) to offer a color e-reader device. You have a glare-free display showing vivid colors that makes reading comics or graphic novels a lot more enticing than it would be with monochrome displays.
Among the other positives of the Clara Colour include its ComfortLight Pro feature that cuts down on blue light automatically. Kobo is also claiming 6 weeks of battery life which is based on the assumption that you are reading for 30 minutes every day with the brightness set at a low setting. It otherwise comes with 16 gigs of storage and boasts of an IPX8 build which makes it resistant to water induced damage to some extent. At 174 grams, the Clara Colour is also quite lightweight too so that reading for even long hours should not be too worrisome.
So, if you are looking for a new e-reader to buy right now, the Clara Colour deal could be just right for you. The Clara BW too is a solid e-reader and should suffice for those who prefer a monochrome display over a color one. While it’s true Amazon has a more elaborate ecosystem and brand presence, the new-gen Kobo devices are simply hard to ignore. The other option would be to wait for the Amazon Prime Day event which is just around the corner.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
