Here’s our weekly look at the best-selling digital comics on comiXology, Kindle, Nook, and iBooks.
1. Avengers, vol. 5 #23
2. Uncanny X-Men, vol. 3 #14
3. Harley Quinn #0
4. X-Men, vol. 4 #7
5. Young Avengers, vol. 2 #12
6. Superior Spider-Man Annual #1
7. The Walking Dead #116
8. The Wake #5
9. Wonder Woman #25
10. Batman and Robin #25: Two-Face
It’s the usual here, this week’s new superhero releases (except for The Walking Dead #116, which is last week’s new zombie release). Marvel wins the week with five releases, DC has four (including The Wake, a Vertigo title), and Image has The Walking Dead. There was quite the controversy over that Harley Quinn comic earlier this year, because DC announced a contest in which would-be artists had to draw the title character attempting suicide in some admittedly over-the-top ways, including sitting in a bathtub surrounded by electrical appliances. The comic, which came out this week, featured four winning drawings by Jeremy Roberts, but the bathtub scene was not among them.
1. Ultimate Comics Wolverine vs. Hulk
2. The Hedge Knight: The Graphic Novel
3. Stephen King’s N
4. The Indispensable Calvin and Hobbes
5. The Essential Calvin and Hobbes
6. The Sandman, vol. 1: Preludes and Nocturnes
7. Batman, vol. 3: Death of the Family
8. The Walking Dead, vol. 1
9. The Walking Dead #116
10. Batman, vol. 1: The Court of Owls
While comiXology readers seem to be impervious to sales, Kindle readers love a bargain; the top seller is a graphic novel that has been marked down to $1.99 for a while now, and the number 11 best-seller is one of those 99-cent Green Lantern comics. In between are the old reliables: George R.R. Martin’s The Hedge Knight, Calvin and Hobbes, The Sandman, The Walking Dead. The third volume of Scott Snyder’s New 52 Batman is a bit of a surprise, but it just came out a few weeks ago, and DC had a pretty good sale on the first volumes of all their Batman New 52 titles a few weeks ago, so maybe they picked up some new readers along the way.
1. The Sandman: Overture #1
2. Naruto, vol. 63
3. Forever Evil #3
4. It’s a Dog’s Life, Snoopy
5. Sandman #1
6. The World According to Lucy
7. Snoopy at the Bat
8. The Walking Dead, vol. 1
9. Big Nate: Game On
10. Injustice: Gods Among Us #2
This week’s Nook top ten list is almost identical to those of the last two weeks; the only difference is in the last two slots, with Big Nate moving up a notch and the second issue of Injustice: Gods Among Us making it onto the list. The first issue slides off into the number 11 slot.
iBooks
1. My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic #13
2. The Walking Dead, vol. 19
3. My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic #12
4. My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic #1
5. Blue Is the Warmest Color
6. Injustice: Gods Among Us, vol. 1
7. My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic #11
8. My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic #2
9. Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Search, Part 3
10. My Little Pony: Micro Series #9 – Spike
The My Little Pony franchise retains its vise-like grip on the iBookstore, with over half of this week’s top ten. The Avatar graphic novel is kid-friendly as well, although the remaining three titles decidedly aren’t.
