We have heard and seen a lot of the Asus Padfone in the last year, starting in Taipei when we were at Computex. The final retail model was shown off today at the MWC event in Barcelona for the tablet and smartphone combo device to finally be revealed. Asus has not only shown off the hardware but a new release date of April. The Padfone tablet itself has been given a makeover so that its not only a smartphone that the device will come attached with but there also is a keypad dock in the picture so that the Padfone can also resemble a notebook device in all its glory. That not all for there also is a headset stylus included in the package which also doubles up as a headset unit. So during the scenario of the phone receiving a call when docked in the tablet, its just the headset that you will have to reach out to instead of having to retrieve the entire phone from the tablet.
Specifications are impressive. Like the Padfone is based on a dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chip and a 1 GB RAM. It comes with a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED qHD display and is powered by a 1520 mAh battery. Also, battery backup time will be the last thing that users will be concerned about as the smartphone will have 5 times the running time when attached with the tablet, which in turn will have 9 hours of extra battery life when attached to the keypad dock. In fact, backup time will run into weeks instead of days for the entire setup.
As for the tablet part, it comes with a 10.1 inch display having a resolution of 1280 X 800 pixels. It features a micro USB and a micro HDMI port while its Android 4.0 ICS that runs the entire show. However, while the tablet part is a bit on the heavier side with a weight of 724 grams, the smartphone is a lot more light.
Lastly, while Asus has let us know the tablet will launch in April, the pricing bit has been kept a secret as of now.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
