With readers gradually shifting their preference to tablets for reading, ebook reader manufacturers have been jumping onto the tablet bandwagon to ensure their survival. Bookeen is the latest to conform to this trend with the Cybook Odyssey tablet being the newest to join the company’s hardware line-up.
Offering a 7 inch high resolution display (the company didn’t mention just how high the resolution is), the Cybook Odyssey tablet is powered by a Tegra quad core chip. Among the other convenient features, the tablet includes support for the new Micro SDHC storage solution, Wi-Fi, and GPS. This tablet running Android (version unknown) also comes with several convenient pre-loaded applications such as Google Maps, Gmail, Google Chrome, Google+, YouTube, and Google Play.
Speaking of the tablet’s launch, Michael Dahan, President of Bookeen, said, “We are delighted to be able to offer our customers a new digital reading solution, the Cybook Tablet, which caters for people who enjoy reading magazines on a handheld device. By expanding our product range and launching the Cybook Tablet in partnership with Relay marks the first in a number of partnerships to come as we aim to make digital reading available and accessible to everyone.”
The Cybook Odyssey tablet has been priced at 159,90€, which translates to around $208 USD. A direct price comparison for the respective regions is not possible, as electronics are generallycheaper on the other side of the ocean. Bookeen has also tied up with Relay to market the device, hoping to tap the latter’s over 550 stores present in France. This apart, Bookeen has also signed partnership agreements with a number of content providers based in Europe. These include the likes of Thalia, Cultura, La Feltrinelli, Adlibris, Decitre, Le Furet du Nord, Orell Füssli, Lüthy, Librairies Gallimard, La Procure, and Cheminant, as well as Pixmania and Bol.com.
