While we already have a sizeable number of foldable smartphone devices, something more exciting is coming our way – a tri-folding device that opens to reveal an even bigger display. This has been shown by noted leaker Digital Chat Station, though unfortunately, there is nothing more that we know about the device. There is no mention of the company working on such a phone either. As NotebookCheck speculated, it can be Huawei or TCL though Samsung can’t be ruled out as well.
The benefit of such a device is, of course, the more prominent display that it unfolds into. This makes things much more portable and handy and should be convenient for those who need to carry a large display for work, study, or whatever. They will always have such a device at their disposal, but one that folds down to a much smaller form factor. On the flip side, the device folds down into something that will be a bit thicker than dual-foldable phones. Also, with an additional hinge, let’s hope the design is sorted out well enough to withstand the rigours of daily use.
Further, given how prohibitively expensive foldable phones tend to be, expect things to be even more so with the tri-folding phone. While manufacturers will surely try to justify the high price tag with the best-in-class specs, it can still be a matter of debate whether you need a device that unfolds into a giant tablet but can be pretty thick in its unfolded state. If that is true, it risks being a niche product. In any case, it will still be interesting to see things in reality and find out how they fare in real life.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
