LG Display has shipped 4 million units of the iPad 2 display in August, up from the 2.5 to 2.6 million units of the 9.7 inch display that it pushed in July. The volume is expected to remain the same for September as well.
There has been several quality issues with the 9.7 inch LCD panels manufactured by LG Display with the panels not being able to clear Apple drop tests while the backlights too had a tendency to fail unexpectedly. All of these prompted Apple to reduce its orders from LGD while upping those from Samsung Electronics and Chimei Innnolux. Now, with LGD too reaching normal levels of iPad 2 panel shipments, it can only mean good news for Apple and iPad fans.
