The CES event is just round the corner and here are some sneak peeks to whet our appetites. Polaroid, the company with a rich legacy in the field of technology spanning 75 years, has come up with a tablet aimed at kids. Offering a 7 inch capacitive 800 X 480 pixel display, the tablet comes with a kid-friendly frame built around the sides and the rear of the device, along with enough software features built in to allow for safe operation by young minds. Parental controls are also an inherent feature, so that parents can keep a tab on what the kids are up to with the device.
The Polaroid tablet will also come pre-loaded with 35 apps to let the kids get started right away. Of course, there will be no dearth of quality content to keep the kids engaged, with the Good e-Reader app store also providing a lot of kid specific apps. Kids Cam, Music Studio, and Draw will come pre-loaded in the device and all aim to encourage the child’s creative abilities. A unique feature of the tablet is that it comes with a display lock, which, when invoked, will lock all the tablet’s buttons and display so that videos or interactive books can play without accidental interruptions.
The Polaroid tablet also aims to make learning a fun-filled experience. The Nook app for Android is a standard feature on the tablet that also includes the Dr. Seuss™ and Smithsonian interactive books that offer users three different ways to read a book. These include the usual “Read it myself,” where users read the book in the traditional way; “Read to me” will read aloud the book with the words being highlighted; and “Auto Play” will read out the book automatically with pages turning on their own.
As for specs, the Polaroid tablet is built around a 1.0 GHz Cortex A8 chip with 512 mb DDR3 RAM and 8 GB of internal memory. Plus there also is a SD card slot to allow for more. The tablet runs Android 4.0 ICS and is Wi-Fi enabled. The tablet will be on display at the upcoming CES event.
