Research in Motion announced today that last quarter it only shipped out 200,000 Playbooks. These sales are “well below what we’d like it to be” said co-chief executive officer Mike Lazaridis. He also hinted that in the next month the Playbook will see a “major software upgrade.”
A typical sales quarter is about ninety days and recently Apple announced it had shipped out 9.25 million iPads. This means that daily the Apple tablet was shipping out 102,000! So in two days the iPad shipped more then RIM in the entire 90 day period.
Playbook sales are lacklustre to say the least, but the company sold 13.7 smartphones last quarter, which is the second highest its ever been. Although they reported gross revenue of 4.2 million it is down 10% from the same period last year.
