Hi, remember the $35 tablet named Sakshat that had made it to tech headlines for its ridiculously low price tag? Its absurdly low price tag led many to dismiss the tablet, and few thought it would make it through production. It’s true that the going has not been smooth for the tablet as HCL, the domestic IT and technology giant that was initially contracted to manufacture the Sakshat tablet PCs, backed out over alleged price differences with the government.
Well, many might have thought the $35 episode might have died, though that does not seem to be case! There are some rumors that the tablet is not only alive but kicking, too! Kicking in the sense that it is believed to be ready for delivery. However, the first lot of 10,000 Sakshats will be delivered to IIT Rajasthan, where the tablets will be put through their paces. After that, the Sakshats will be made available to students across the country. The next lot will comprise of 90,000 units with price likely to be around the INR. 2,200 mark, which translates to around $52. However, that is expected to drop down further as the government is actively considering a 50 percent subsidy for the Sakshat, which will bring the price down to INR. 1,100 or about $25. That 10 less than the initial expected $35 mark.
As for its features, while not everything about the Sakshat has been made public as yet, the little that has come out does make the tablet sound interesting. It’s going to have a 7 inch touchscreen display, Wi-Fi and USB connectivity, along with 2 GB of RAM. Plus it will also include a host of features that promises to make it student friendly.
The only thing that remains now is an official announcement from the authorities concerned.

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
