Shipping to over 7000 retail stores sometime in October 2010 is the new LITERATI E-Reader by Sharper Image.
This new e-reader is marketed as a very simple device that will work right out of the box. It has WI-FI for easy internet access and a 7 inch 800×480, TFT color display. It is running on a custom Linux operating system, designed by Kobo. You will also get your choice of colors, such as white and black / brushed metallic.
Now lets talk eBooks! The E-Reader comes bundled with 25 free classic titles and once you register your account you will have free access to over 125 other pre-selected titles. Kobo’s firmware was built right into the Literati, ensuring that readers would have instant access to the Kobo Bookstore with nearly two million titles, including New York Times bestsellers, new releases, cookbooks, children’s books, magazines, newspapers, and more. You will be able to read ePub, PDF and Txt eBook formats on this device. So you will be able to load your own ebooks from other stores. If they have DRM you would want to use Adobe Digital Editions, if it is NON-DRM ebooks, you can simply copy the ebooks via Windows Explorer right on it. Other options for eBooks include Smashwords, iPulpfiction, and our own Good e-Reader Book Store.
This new e-reader is priced at around $159 and will be available at locations such as Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, JC Penney, Kohl’s, Macy’s and others.
