MID and PMP has been overshadowed or buried under the flood of Tablets that has been hitting the market of late. New releases are showing up almost every other day and there is no stopping of it seen as of now. However there are the MID and PMP also that are surfacing off and on and one of them noteworthy is the TCL Touchlife from the Chinese TV manufacturer TCL. TCL is better known for their LCD TVs and may have never made small sized tablets before but what they have done with the Touchlife is indeed commendable as the device can and does impress with its looks. However, it bears a striking similarity to the RAmos W7, so much that it might led one to believe its a re-badged tablet.
However, spec sheet isn’t that impressive as the Touchlife’s clean and sleek looks. The capacitive view screen is 5 inches, 4.8 inch to be pricise, LED backlit WVGA touchscreen which puts it slam bang in the Dell Streak 5 territory. It has a 800 x 480 pixel resolution and runs on the Google Android operating system version 1.6. A 600 MHz Rockchip RK2808Â CPU powers the Touchlife and has the ability to play 720p video through MKV, XVid and H.264 encoding. In addition to this, the other common video formats that the Touchlife is compatible with include AVI, MOV, TS, RM/RMVB, FLV, 3GP, DAT, MPEG, MP4 and M2TS . TCL also claims the Touchlife is Adobe Flash compliant and has support for games and other online video formats..
The device comes in a metal case of just 0.39 inch thickness, and sports a chrome back. The device also has an accelerometer installed and the battery lasts for 5 hours if playing video. Standard standby time is claimed to be in the range of around seven days. One can also perform tasks like browsing, email, audio playback and image viewing. The device does not end in features with this. The Touchlife can also be an e-reader as well and is compliant with the TXT, PDF, HTML, CHM, and RTF formats of eBooks. It also includes Wifi connection and a 3.5mm headset jack.
Other information like when its going to hit markets or details about price has not yet been announced though if TCL Touchlife is kept at reasonable price levels it would sure give stiff competition to the midsized MID devices.
Keep tuned to this place for other tablet pc or e-reader news.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
