If you have been holding on to buying the current Galaxy Tab hoping instead to pick up the Wi-Fi only version that Best Buy has started to advertise in its online flyer, well here is some bad news. The device is now no where to be seen and no one known for sure when it will be seen in flesh and blood. So much that a launch this year seems pretty much improbable.
The indefinite delay of the SKU 1409447 version of the 7-inch Samsung Android Froyo tablet has been attributed to glitches at the manufacturer’s end. An inadvertently leak of a Best Buy ‘pullback’ notice led to the delay becoming public though it has also come to set a few records straight.
For instance, the Wi-Fi only Galaxy Tab, when it comes will have the regular TFT LCD screen as the Samsung tablet that is currently selling and won’t come with the Super AMOLED display as was earlier advertised. Also, the color of the Wi-Fi version will not be silver as was mentioned in the Best Buy ad. Rather it would be in white as any other Galaxy Tab now on sale.
The main Reason for the huge demand of the Wi-Fi only speced Galaxy Tab is the price advantage that it offered as the device is expected to sell for about $500, which is almost $100 less than the corresponding 3G version. Samsung however has not come out with any announcement if the Wi-Fi version of Galaxy Tab would continue to sport the same specification as the 3G Galaxy Tab.
