ZTE introduces the ‘Light’ Android tablet

October 13, 2010 By Sovan Mandal 3 Comments

ZTE Light

Here comes the ‘Light’ to further illuminate things up in the tablet segment. The tablet PC scene is red hot and the 7 inch category of tablets is the hottest at the moment. And the newly launched Android tablet christened ‘Light’ from ZTE is a shining example.

Launched at the ongoing P&T/Expo Comm China 2010, the Light is being pushed forward as a device that’s the right combination of convenience and portability, while providing loads of entertainment. But limiting the Light to just fun and entertainment would be only a part of the story. ZTE’s contribution has a lot to offer for the business community as well.

As has already been mentioned, its a 7 inch TFT touch sensitive screen making up the front of the device and allows for a real quick internet experience. ZTE is claiming download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 5.76 Mbps via its HSUPA network. The Light comes equipped with built in Wi-Fi as well and is also able to make voice calls on dual band UMTS 2100MHz/900MHz networks.

Within it is 512 MB RAM and a ROM of the same capacity while battery life is a quite respectful 10 hours. The Light balances out at a quite convenient 403 grams and comes integrated with a G sensor along with other goodies like a 3.5mm stereo headset, an external SD card slot that can expand the storage capacity all the way up to 32 GB, and so on. The Light is also able to play back music and video files.

“We are watching the convergence of tablet computer and Internet application. Light is the result,” said the vice president at ZTE, He Shiyou while further adding: “It’s a device with special design and more portable compared with the iPad.”

However, more details of the tablet are still keenly awaited. More so, as the company has revealed the tablet has elicited the interest throughout different parts of the world. The company is in fact claiming to have already received several foreign orders for the Light though is not yet in the mood to reveal the exact details.
