Digital photo frames are a dime a dozen these days. However, making one for yourself is something completely different. It is a different kind of experience, something DIY enthusiasts can relate to immediately. Further, with a colour e-paper display, things take on a different proposition thanks to the glare-free display that is so soothing to the eyes. While its actual colour e-paper displays lack the rich and vivid colour effect of LCD or LED panels, the soft and comfortable view makes up for that.
The particular project, as XDA-Developers reported, has been executed by combining Raspberry Pi and a colour e-paper display. At the same time, the actual images are drawn from Google Photos. The project, shared on Reddit by someone identified as Tymotex, looks fantastic. The image gets changed to show the next one in the queue automatically at the rate of one new image shown every hour. Any new image added to Google Photos is automatically selected as next in line.
If you wish to create your version of the digital e-paper photo frame, you will have all the details here on the InkMemories GitHub page. As mentioned on the InkMemories blog page on this, it costs around AUD 130 for the E-Ink display, which is the single most expensive item with the Raspberry Pi, and the power supply costs around AUD 40.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
