Amazon has announced that they have raised the prices for free two day shipping to $49 and $25 for books. If you are an Amazon Prime member there is no minimum amount you have to spend to get the free two day shipping.
Amazon used to charge a minimum of $35 for free two day shipping, so customers will have to spend $14 more in order to qualify under the new pricing model. This increase is likely due to the fact that shipping costs are rising for Amazon and they are under pressure from shareholders to remain profitable. Additionally, the Seattle company eventually wants to phase our dealing with USPS and FEDEX and start its own shipping system. They are currently experimenting with Drone Delivery, investing in a new maritime shipping fleet and leasing their own airplanes.
