Mark Twain has developed some of the most seminal literature of our time. Two of his most popular characters, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, could be getting the steam punk treatment. ABC has ordered a script based on these two characters in a adaption that focuses on whirling gears, pocket watches, and all sorts of blimps.
The Hollywood Reporter said that “The drama hails from Detroit 1-8-7 duo Jason Richman and David Zabel and is described as an adventure-themed reinvention that revolves around the two famed literary characters who re-meet as young men in their 20s and form an investigative firm in a bustling and Steam Punk New Orleans.”
Some people might call it sacrilege that major literary fictional characters are being revisited in an alternative world. It remains to be seen if a pilot will ever get made, but steam punk aficionados shall rejoice if it does.
