It’s hard to keep track of the most popular digital comics, because unlike the print-book best-seller lists, which come out once a week, digital-comics lists are updated more or less continuously. Amazon does theirs once an hour. Still, it seems like Sunday night would be a good time to check out the digital best-sellers, as everyone will have had time to get the Wednesday releases. Every Sunday, Good e-Reader is going to bring the definitive Digital Comic Best Seller List for Digital Comics!

These lists are not strictly comparable; Amazon filters out the free comics (and comiXology may too, for all I know), and Amazon also has two different lists; I went with the straight Comics and Graphic Novels one. If it seems like Marvel dominates the comiXology list and DC is the top seller for Kindle and Nook, that is partly because Marvel only sells single-issue comics via comiXology.
That said, the comiXology list is very different from the other two, because it’s the only one in that includes single-issue comics priced above 99 cents. All the comics on the list except for The Walking Dead #111 are from this past week; the Walking Dead one is from the week before. Clearly, comiXology is dominated by readers who like to get the latest comics and don’t mind paying full price for them.
It’s not surprising that Superman #1 tops the Amazon list; that is the comic they were giving away for free to people who subscribed to their newsletter, so that would boost the numbers. Injustice: Gods Among Us is a digital-first comic that ties in with the video game of the same name; both are set in the DC Universe, and it’s the one comic that seems to be doing well on all three platforms. It is a bit surprising that there aren’t more graphic novels on the Kindle and Nook lists, but perhaps when the flush of free and discounted Superman comics dies down we will see a few more.
