It must be celebration time at Archos. For its three devices that they have managed to secure FCC clearance for – two tablet PCs along with an e-reader.
The tablet line up comprises of a 10 and 8 inch sized device christened Arnova 10HT and Arnova 8 respectively. However, there is very little information that is available of the two tablet PCs and the little that has made it to the public domain only paints a vague picture at best. So all that is known is that the larger 10 inch tablet will be more conventional of the two and comes equipped with a Wi-Fi module. Not surprisingly, Archos is calling it as an ‘Internet tablet.’
Coming to Arnova 8 and the less ‘conventional’ of the two, the tablet seems to be aimed more at the e-book reading crowd than anything else. It might be in the league of the Nook Color where the primary role of the tablet will be to read e-books with a few other features thrown in for entertainment. Specs revealed so far points out the Arnova to be an entry level tablet at best in that it packs in just a 311 MHz ARM processor along with 8 GB of internal storage. The tablet will have an 8 inch 800 x 600 pixel display and will include Android 1.5.
Meanwhile, Archos also got through the FCC regulations with a real e-book reading device as well. Named Archos 70c, the e-reader comes with a 7 inch TFT display having a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. However, things are a tad better with the 70c e-reader in that not only there are more information available of the device but it also boasts of better levels of specification. Like the 70c is powered by a 600 MHz CPU and is based on a more up-to-date Android 2.1 Eclair. The e-reader sports a 4 GB internal memory while there also is a SD card slot for added storage.
The 70c though lacks 3G and the only way contents can be downloaded is via Wi-Fi. But then, the 70c is also quite affordable with an asking price of just $150. And at this price, one also has the option to do things such as media playback, web browsing and so on. Availability details is yet anybody’s guess though pre-orders are currently being accepted at J&R

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
