Popular deal site Groupon is now offering two solid tablets for those wanting to score a mega deal on two Android devices. They are offering the Skytex Primer Pocket for $65 ($129 value) and one of our favorite tablets we reviewed this year the SkyPad Alpha $129 ($199 value)
If you are looking for a small stocking stuffer for the holiday season look no further then the Skytex Primer Pocket Android 2.2 Media Player. It won’t set any records in terms of hardware and functionality but you can’t go wrong for $65. It features a 4.3 inch multitouch LCD display with a resolution of 480×272 pixels. It has a 600 MHZ CPU processor and 256 MB of RAM. There is enough storage for most media with the 4 GB internal and room to expand up to 16 GB via Micro SD. You can connect up to the internet via WIFI and download apps from Getjar or other app stores for content. One of the good things it has going for it is the speakers and 3.5 mm headphone jack to listen to tunes. A solid investment for the money and Skytex devices have a high build quality vs. the competition.
One of my favorite low cost tablets of the year has to be the Skytex SkyPad Alpha! We reviewed this tablet just a few months ago and you get tremendous value for your money with this device. The SkyPad Alpha features a 7 inch resistive touchscreen display with a resolution of 800×480 pixels. It has 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal memory. You can enhance the memory up to 32 GB via the Micro SD card. The tablet is very fast and does common tasks fairly well, thanks to the Freescale i.MX515 ARM Cortex-A8 800 MHZ processor.
You can connect up to the internet via WIFI and it has bluetooth support. It has a mini USB connector on the bottom of the unit to plug in to your computer. When it’s plugged in you can transfer music, movies, pictures, and other content to the device. Speaking of music, the speakers are on the back of the unit and even on full volume does not really provide loud audio. You want to use the bundled headphones that come with the unit and plug them into the 3.5 mm headphone jack.
All of these devices read EPUB and PDF right out of the box and other formats such as MOBI, TXT, RTF and tons of audio formats via 3rd party apps. If you had to choose between one or the other, I would recommend the SkyPad Alpha. Be quick though, you have 2 days from now to buy it. Below is our video review of the SkyPad Alpha.
