The latest Good E-Reader News has Nigerian firm Encipher Limited, now located in the UK announcing a new Google Android driven tablet PC with a seven inch display.
Encipher is a new company with this Slate PC being the first offering and is approaching the market to mainly promote their cloud computing services; such as Microsoft Exchange for email syncing, Cloud Storage, being able to access your PC Desktop remotely and Voice over IP.
The core mechanics of the this new slate is a paltry VIS8505 400MHz CP processor, 512 MB of RAM, and only 16GB of flash storage. Although with the processor, and the 800×400 LCD resolution it might not be enough to run HDMI, although the device does have a HDMI port. If you are looking at the internet aspect of the device it has 3G and WI-FI. Finally, it has 2 USB 2.0 ports in order to plug in flash drives, or external keyboards.
The operating system is Google Android 1.6 codenamed Donut. This is a tremendous drawback as Google 2.1 OS seems to be the new device industry standard.
When reached for comment Saheed Adepoju, the Strategy & Innovation Manager of Encipher Limited, had this to say; “We envisage that lots of application development will take to the cloud. We are offering Cloud Storage options complete with set of APIs to access these them. Our website is currently being revamped, so all the information above and much more will soon be available there. Pre-order form will be available for the tablet on www.enciphergroup.co.uk. For now, the tablet will be available only in Nigeria but efforts are being made to cater for other locations.”
