A tried and tested method of enhancing sales or clearing stock is to slash prices and Amazon has done just that with its Kindle 3 e-reader, except it’s the refurbished model. Only $99 is all takes to bring home a refurbished 3rd gen Kindle Wi-Fi, with the 3G variant of the same now priced at $139. This against the $139 and $189 price tags that the Wi-Fi only and 3G + Wi-Fi Kindle 3 versions cost. Kindle 2 accessories have also been included in the latest round of price cuts.
Also, another question that is sure to pop up in everybody’s mind is why would Amazon resort to slashing prices of it best selling e-reader?
History has some answers, as the last time Amazon did so was when Kindle 3 was being readied for a launch while Kindle 2 had then displayed a similar lowering of price.
So is this an indication of a new Kindle e-reader coming?
Maybe so, and the new Kindle might be coming as soon as within the next month. We have already heard quite a few rumors of Amazon readying at least 2 e-reader devices, with one being for the budget segment aimed at students while the other is touted to be touchscreen based along the lines of the Nook Color or the Kobo Touch. There is also the Amazon tablet that is expected to be launched sometime in the next few months.
So for those who have always wanted to own a Kindle, now is the best time to go for it. More so if all you want is a device that can read e-books and the Kindle 3 is mighty good at that. Or if you have always yearned for the latest and greatest, well, the countdown begins.
