Thalia is one of the largest retail book stores in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The company has a longstanding relationship with e-reader company Bookeen, and the two will provide customers with the latest tech for the holidays. Thalia will offer the brand new Cybook Odyssey HD FrontLight and Odyssey 2013 edition within the next few weeks. Both Cybook Odysseys will be provided with an embedded Thalia ebook store.
Michael Busch of Thalia said in a statement that “We at Thalia have a solid foundation of experience in ebooks and e-reading. This expanded partnership with Bookeen, after a very successful launch in June, is therefore an important step as it brings together our common experience in this domain. Our customers will be able to discover Bookeen’s new FrontLight technology within major bookshops thanks to our expert booksellers. The rapid developments in the e-reader market as well as the increase in the distribution of ebooks justifies Thalia’s strategy to invest in this sector.”
Bookeen is the only company in Europe to compete against Kobo and Amazon on a retail level. Most other companies depend exclusively via online sales, which hamper their growth and market penetration.
