With so many tablets on the market and new improvements being added with every new launch (think “retina screen”), it’s no wonder that many in digital publishing are scrambling to develop the mind-blowing content to take full advantage of the newly available technology.
iStoryTime, award-winning creators of children’s enhanced ebook apps, has already announced its latest title will be redesigned to shine on the new iPad’s screen and an interview with Graham Farrar about their latest title will take place later this week, but now even more publishers are thinking outside the box in terms of building the ebook with the publication in mind rather than the other way around.
Calvin Reid of Publisher’s Weekly spoke with Adam Mock, president of Medallion Media Group, about its recent acquisition of Triple Threat Mobile Development in order to launch a brand-new ebook distribution platform. But unlike the wealth of ebook publishers out there, Medallion’s new venture will be about creating something new in the world of enhanced ebooks. This new platform will officially launch in 2013, and while Mock was very secretive about the types of improvements Medallion plans to make to enhanced ebooks, he assures that it will be far more involved than simply adding video or audio to the reading experience.
Medallion is known for its multimedia projects, and Triple Threat specializes in custom app and video game creation, so when Mock said that the planned improvements will be “a new way for readers to digest a book,” it’s probably more than just lip service on his part.
Medallion has brought video game development expert Brian Buck on board as its executive director of technology because Mock feels there is a strong correlation between video game creation and the publication of enhanced ebooks, especially in the expectations of the consumer.
