Kobo has some of the best e-book reading devices to offer. They are right up there when compared to the Amazon Kindle or the B&N Nook. In fact, Kobo seems to have something that even the Kindle lacks. It is the ability to add custom screensavers even though the feature has not been officially acknowledged by Kobo. As shared by Nathan of The e-Book Reader Blog who, in turn, came across it via a Reddit post, the process is similar to the one I have described earlier. Here are the steps.
- Connect your Kobo e-reader to your PC using a USB cable. The e-reader should appear as a connected device.
- Open the file explorer on your PC and navigate to the storage of your Kobo e-reader. This is usually listed as “KOBOeReader” or “Kobo” in the list of connected devices.
- Inside the Kobo’s storage, you should find a folder named “.kobo”. Open this folder.
- If you already see a folder named “screensaver” inside the “.kobo” folder, you can skip this step. Otherwise, create a new folder inside “.kobo” and name it exactly “screensaver” (without the quotation marks).
- Now, add one or more images to the “screensaver” folder. These images will serve as your custom screensavers. You can use any image format supported by the Kobo e-reader (e.g., JPEG, PNG).
- If you have multiple images in the “screensaver” folder, the Kobo will randomly select one of them to display every time it goes to sleep.
- Next, we need to adjust some settings on your Kobo e-reader to enable the custom screensavers. Go to the home screen of your Kobo.
- Tap the settings icon (usually looks like a gear or three dots) to access the settings menu.
- Look for options related to screensavers or sleep mode settings. For the Kobo Libra 2, you need to ensure that both “Show Current Read” and “Show Book Covers Full Screen” settings are turned ON.
- Save the changes and exit the settings menu.
Voila! Now, every time your Kobo e-reader goes to sleep, it will display the custom screensaver images you added to the “screensaver” folder. If you included multiple images, the e-reader will randomly pick one each time it goes to sleep.
Please note that the location of the “.kobo” folder and the specific settings may vary slightly depending on the firmware version of your Kobo e-reader. However, the general process of adding custom screensavers should be similar for most Kobo models.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
