There have already been rumors about Onyx Boox preparing to launch its new Leaf 5 e-reader device. We now know it will happen on April 1, 2025. Although ITHome has revealed the launch date, there is almost nothing that we know about the upcoming e-reader device. That said, it seems a certainty that it will come with a Carta 1300 display.
What is interesting, though, is that the company has named the upcoming release as the Leaf 5 and not Leaf 4. The company had last launched the Leaf 3 in September 2023. It offers a 7-inch E Ink Carta 1200 display with 300 PPI resolution. The display also uses a micro-crystal etched glass cover process that ensures light transmittance of 92 percent.
The display otherwise supports 256 levels of global grayscale and offers dual color temperature front lights for an optimum reading experience, irrespective of the ambient lighting conditions. Under the hood lies an octa-core processor along with 3 gigs of memory. Further, a 2300 mAh battery kept the device alive.
The company followed that up with the Leaf 3C, which was launched in February 2024 and featured a 7-inch Kaleido 3 color e-paper display. Other specs of the Leaf 3C include an octa-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of EMMC 5.1 storage with the option to add another 1 TB and a 2300 mAh battery rated to last 40 days on a single charge.
The Leaf 3C runs Android 11 open system that allows the installation of third-party apps. Other features include an integrated microphone, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.0. It measures just 6 mm and weighs 190 grams.
Both the Leaf 3 and Leaf 3C were exclusive to China. It now remains to be seen what the Leaf 5 will be like and whether it will be launched worldwide. Let’s hope this does not become an April Fool’s joke. Stay tuned.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
