Intex technologies, specialists in the manufacture of computer peripherals, has entered the lucrative tablet PC segment in India with a device named the i-Tab. The naming is interesting as the ‘i’ pre-fix is normally associated with Apple. However, the i-Tab is as far from Apple as oranges are with everything from size, specifications, and price, making the i-Tab a unique tablet offering.
The i-Tab comes with a 8 inch display that is based on capacitive touchscreen technology. It is powered by a 1 GHz cortex A8 core processor, which works in conjugation with a 512 MB DDR3 RAM. The tablet comes with an internal memory of 8 GB which can be expanded all the way up to 32 GB. The battery pack of the device is a 5000 mAh, which Intex is claiming is good enough for about 5-6 hours of play back time. For connectivity, the tablet boasts of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth as well as an inbuilt GPS, while the device also accommodates a 3.5 mm audio jack and a USB port. The tablet runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Other applications that come pre-loaded with the device are Angry Birds and the Office suite, though its not known if the tablet is also provided with any e-book reading apps.
Speaking at the launch, Sanjay Kumar, GM, Mobile Business at Intex Technologies (India) Ltd., said, “Intex has been offering affordable user-friendly products across various categories for over 16 years now and our loyal customer base is a living testimonial to our claim. Empowering and delighting our customers through technology has been at the core of all our offerings. This makes us consistently innovate and diversify into newer portfolios enabling customers to harness the power of computing technology. The i-Tab will surely offer an engaging, entertaining and enriching experience for our customers.”
The tablet is priced at INR. 11,900 and is available from more than 15,000 retail outlets throughout India. Intex is also offering freebies with the tablet, which includes the company’s 3G data card, LAN adaptor and leather cover, along with a pair of Reebok sunglasses as well.

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
