LucasFilm and Random House will be converting most of the entire book library under the Del Rey and Bantam Spectra labels to ebooks by June 28th 2011. This amounts to over 100 book titles that will make the cut.
Most of these books will have an updated Star Wars novel timeline, to give you a sense of the history of the expanded universe. There will also be an introduction to the major eras such as; The Old Republic, Rise of the Empire, Rebellion, The New Republic, New Jedi Order, and Legacy.
“Readers and fans have been asking for the Star Wars novels to be made available digitally, and we’re excited that we can finally make this happen,” said Howard Roffman, President of Lucas Licensing. “We’re committed to providing fans with great Star Wars stories that can be enjoyed on any reading platform. We’re thrilled to see the extensive backlist of Del Rey and Bantam titles made available electronically.”
I must say, its going to be excellent to give new readers the chance to dive into the expanded Star Wars Universe. There are many respected authors such as R.A. Salvatore, Timothy Zahn and Kevin J. Anderson which are worth checking out.
