Microsoft will have another jab at the tablet segment with the Surface Pro device, which is set to reach stores on February 9. However, Microsoft is not targeting the tablet segment alone with the Surface Pro, which is also seen as a contender for the notebook/ultrabook segment as well. Prices reflect that; $899 for the 64 GB version and $999 for the version with 128 GB of storage. The prices mentioned are exclusive to the touch and type cover, which costs an extra $100. Thankfully, the Surface Pen Stylus with integrated palm rejection technology is part of the package.
Specification wise, the Surface Pro packs in an Intel Core i5 CPU with Intel HD Graphics 4000 and a 4 GB RAM to ensure zippy performance. Another positive aspect of the Surface Pro vis-Ã -vis its RT counterpart is that it offers a much better display; 1920 x 1080 pixels compared to 1366 x 768 pixels of the Surface RT. The Surface Pro also comes with a bigger battery, 42 whr, though with a reported backup time of around half that of the Surface RT. However, the obvious advantage with the Surface Pro is that it runs the full blown Windows 8 OS and is compatible with all legacy Windows applications.
