While Apple did go overboard with the ‘thinner, lighter and faster’ slogan to drive home the point how much of an improvement they have managed to mete out to the new iPad 2, it however did not get the chance to play the ‘thin’ card as much as it would have liked to. The reason – Samsung came along with the 8.9 and 10.1 inch sized tablet that is even more thin. However, lest you think that is the thinnest it can be, well here is one more company that has found the way to make a tablet PC still more thin.
The tablet that OGT or Our Generation Technology is working on is just 7 mm thick. This works out to just 0.28 inches. For comparison’s sake, the Apple iPad 2 has a thickness of 8.8 mm or 0.34 inches which is 1.8 mm or 0.06 inches thicker than the OGT tablet. Now these aren’t any big figures in itself though can make a big difference when it is about usability or portability as well as ease of use.
The rest of the OGT tablet is still under clouds though Android Central has some details of the upcoming tablet. Like the tablet will be powered by a 1 GHz processor and will be running Android, the exact version of which is still anybody’s guess. The tablet will have on board storage options of 16 GB to 32 GB while there is a microSD card slot as well.
Also, the tablet isn’t just about its super slim form as it has beaten the iPad 2 as well as the XOOM on another key aspect. The OGT tablet will have a pixel density of 188 ppi which is mighty impressive to say the least. This since the OGT tablet’s ppi (pixel per inch) not only compares favorably with the XOOM’s 152 ppi but is a lot better than the iPad 2’s 132 ppi.
These apart, the tablet will have a 5 megapixel camera at the rear along with a front facing 3 megapixel camera. The tablet will be available in both WiFi only and 3G models and weighs about 1.2 pounds or 550 grams. As of now, there is no news of when the tablet will be launched though when it does, it will be something to look out for.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
