Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos told shareholders today that he wants to add more benefits to the Prime membership program and said “Our goal with Amazon Prime, make no mistake, is to make sure that if you are not a Prime member, you are being irresponsible.”
Amazon Prime offers plenty of benefits such as free two day shipping, access to the Kindle Lending library and being able to watch movies and television shows on Amazon Instant video.
One of the new features that will soon be available to Prime members is access to Amazons new own private-label brands. Amazon will be directly selling nuts, spices, tea, coffee, baby food and vitamins, as well as household items such as diapers and laundry detergents. The first of the new brands will be available in May or early June.
The last bit of news to come out of the shareholders meeting is Bezos proclaiming that Amazon is “definitely going to open additional stores,” but it hasn’t yet decided how many.
